Amy Steinberg Concert
Amy Steinberg will be our special guest at the 2008 conference. On Wednesday evening (September 3rd) she'll be giving us a family friendly, unschooling loving, and absolutely awe inspiring concert. If you haven't yet heard Amy's music, you can check out her MySpace page and have a listen. Her music is fun, inspirational, funny, zen, quirky, sweet and thought provoking. Her voice is powerful and her spirit is filled with joy. Her concerts just sweep you up and take you along for a wonderful ride. Everyone who is registered for the conference is invited to attend. We will pass the hat for a small family donation to help pay for Amy's expenses.
Talent Show (Thursday and Friday nights at Washburn Center - 7:00 PM)
Acts must be limited to three minutes. Please do your best to stay within this time period. Otherwise, there's no way to keep it running on schedule! There will be a Talent Show table near the registration check-in. They will give you a card so that you can legibly write down your name, your age, the title of your act or talent, the number of minutes you will perform, and any comments you might like the MC to know (such as your most recent accomplishments or whether you prefer to perform early or late in the evening). We appreciate your consideration! We want the talent show to run as smoothly as possible---and that depends a lot on you!
Fairy God Parents with Cameron Lovejoy (Sign up Wednesday at Washburn Center)
Everyone who wants to participate will write his name down on a sheet of paper, only once, and place it into a bucket. After each person has done so, everyone who placed his name into the bucket reaches in and pulls out a name that isn't his own. Now once you have that name you MUST remember it. You can keep it in your pocket if need be. If you don't know who this person is, ask people you DO know to find out. But do it stealthily! Once you know your Fairy God Child you can do anything you want for him as long as it's kind and makes him feel good inside. You can make signs to hang in public places that say how wonderful he is, give him a random hug "just for the fun of it", ask someone to play or sing a song for him, write him a letter, make some kind of special food for him, or have a group of people hug attack him.
Whatever you do make sure you do it without his knowing it's you---and be creative!! And at the end of the week you can choose to tell your Fairy God Child who you are or have him wonder forever.
And, please, if you put your name into the bucket and draw one, please participate. No one wants to be neglected by his Fairy God Parent!
UNtrepreneurial Fair (Blue Ridge Center Lobby from 2:00 - 5:00 PM Thursday -Saturday)
Does your unschooler have his own business? Does she have a craft or other item she would like to sell? Unschoolers are often budding entrepreneurs! Have them bring their wares to the conference. We'll provide space for displaying and selling their goods during the UNtrepreneurial Fair. The fair will run throughout the weekend to give everyone who wants to sell an opportunity to do so.
